i may have the chance in the near future to get a brand new, unopened Sharp p150 laptop for a very cheap price. i know that i will be putting in more ram if i get it, but i was wondering about other upgrades. are the laptop version of chipsets the same basic type as desktops:i.e., is the p150 for laptops socket 7? if so, would it have any likely chance of taking a k6-2 or 3 chip? also, is there any chance of putting in another, mobile vid card? i wouldn't expect to really do anygaming, but it would be nice if i could put in a vid card that was decent, and maybe had enough power to help run DVD's. i'm aware that even if a decent upgrade is possible, it would probably not be that cost effective compared to a new laptop (which i don't have the dough to get), but i was just wondering if it was possible. by the way, i don't actually own the laptop, so i can't take it appart and look inside if the answers to my questions require info about the internals of the system.

thanks a lot!

Sharp used oddball non standard ram in my DX4 100 laptop

It's never gona do DVD

The battery even if it's not garbage from sitting in a box for 3years is prolly only going to give you 60-90min at best (prolly a nicad so it will get memory problems)

Save your money

About all you'll be able to do with that machine as far as upgrades go is add EXPENSIVE proprietary RAM and a bigger hard drive.

You won't be able to upgrade anything else. Not the CD, not the CPU, not the graphics. Very, very, very, very few laptops are designed for any "upgradeability" except for RAM and hard drive and whatever you can stuff into a PCMCIA slot. And a machine that old probably doesn't support CardBus PC Cards, which may or may not limit you.

old memory for those laptops can be quite pricey and i would imagine you won't get much more than 64mb total anyway.... and i don't think you can expect to get much more of a processor in there.... i would try for a faster one for the same price as struggling to upgrade....;)

good luck
