Laptop Upgrade

I have a laptop with Vista on it. I want to put 7 on it. Can I just buy the less expensive OEM version of 7, or do I have to get an upgrade copy?
 
OEM copies are normally limited to the machine brand they were assigned to. An OEM copy cannot legally be transferred to a non-assigned machine. Get the upgrade copy.
 
That is correct. The OS will then be married to that laptop. Newegg is selling unassigned OEMware.
