You can often get a very well loaded dell 700m, 6000, or 9300, depending on your tastes for under 700-800 dollars. That would be my suggestion. I absolutely love my 760 dollar 700m =)

In Germany the Aspire 1690 series comes with X600 and X700 graphic cards for 1100Euros. Dont know why ur model has GPU/VPU Intel GMA900. u can see some specs and price here: http://geizhals.at/eu/?fs=Acer+Aspire+169&x=36&y=8&in=
From what ive read in forums ppl who bought this book seem quiet happy with the graphics and performance (of the x700 models), screen quality and the Gigabit-Ethernet. Some complain that it has no bluetooth.

That is a good basic system; no gaming potential, reasonable battery life, good for basic usage.

got it, works great, decent build quality

only complaints were that it comes formatted in FAT32???!!!!??? why? (i converted it all to NTFS easily tho using windows). the drive comes pre partitioned in two even section, not sure exactly why.
I also had a problem with windows not being able to update and i had to do a few things to get that running missing dll's or something). not sure if that was acer's fault or windows tho

You could always wipe the HDD and start fresh ;)
Congrats on the new Acer

the NTFS conversion went flawless. i would like it partitioned different, but mabey down the road i will wipe it clean. not 100% sure they give you all the drivers and a full version of Xp in the recovery discs
