Can I connect a Dell Latitude Z600 to an HDTV using a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter?

The Dell has a DisplayPort jack, but the icon is only one D, and not the D++ icon. DisplayPort wikipedia article says D++ icon indicates dual-mode compatibility, which is necessary to connect HDMI to a DisplayPort.

The Dell sports an Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics card which seems to support HDMI. Will this work?

Looking to get something like this: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=330-1271

Laptop specs: http://www.dell.com/us/en/business/...z/pd.aspx?refid=laptop-latitude-z&cs=04&s=bsd

If that's true then you will need to get an active (not passive) Displayport to HDMI adapter, but they are expensive.

Passive ones are cheap. And maybe your laptop supports D++. It would just make sense if it did. Seems odd to "force" customers to get an expensive active adapter when they could just include a D++ port to handle both displayport and hdmi/dvi. So you wouldn't be at too much of a loss if you bought one and it doesn't work.

By the looks of it that adapter that Dell sells is passive. I am 90% sure that's all you need.

Even the info manual, which is made for ignorant user, doesn't specify an active adapter is needed. And they would have to specify this information or else people would be buying the wrong thing, considering they only include a single port for external monitor hookup.

Now if they had both an HDMI and DisplayPort native, then I'd bet you would need an active adapter for the Displayport.
