I'm casually looking at replacements for my long-in-the-tooth m6300. It's a 17" 1920x1200, c2d machine that's still generally acceptable for what I do with it, though the display backlight is dying a very slow death.
After one in-warranty repair, I've had no trouble with it, despite a fair amount of travel.
What manufacturers/lines should I be looking at to replace it? I need to keep the screen resolution and 17" would be preferable and high build quality/general sturdiness is very important to me. Weight doesn't matter that much as long as it's not totally crazy - a buddy's got a monster of a Clevo that I swear weighs 30 pounds.
Edit: for use, it's 90% photoshop & similar use, 10% gaming. I'd love to be able to totally replace my desktop, but I'm not sure I see that happening. Budget is flexible but probably no higher than $1800 or so, though lower is better.
