laptop to projector problems

I have a toshiba laptop and a newer projector. I can see windows 2000 fine, but as soon as I play a quicktime or real player clip, it only shows the window. It doesn't play the clip. It shows a black screen. I tried changing the resolution to 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 at a standard 60HZ but still nothing. Any ideas? The laptop is using gforce4 420MX or something like that.
 
You can only create an overlay on the primary screen. You'd have to switch the projector to the primary display, and the laptop display to the secondary.
