Laptop to Desktop Adaptor Problem

Hey guys,
I bought a hard drive adaptor 44pin to 40pin ide to save my friends files to my computer - due to him not being able to boot to windows. I have a question though, when i plug in the laptop harddrive and boot, my master hd wont detect. any reasons why this may happen?

thanks in advance!

Yes - most laptop drives are default set to Master. The mini-jumpers needed to change that are not usually standard. You have to find them. Alternatively, put it in as Master of your secondary IDE channel and see what happens.

This is why I like to use an external Firewire or USB 2 enclosure for 2.5" drives and do it that way - no jumper needed. 🙂

yea i was in a rush and i didnt realize it was set at master, now i have a chance to work with it more so ill try that. thanks for the suggestion. hehe i wish i could get a firewire enclosure - but im on a limited budget as he is paying me back for what i buy...so i think ill stick with the 7 dollar adaptor! 😀
