Laptop techs--please reply! TFT display problem

Hey!
Condition--TFT display on Tecra 8000 seems to have an intermittent connection behind display grid; while powered up, screen 'melts' into RGB vertical lines, and if you tap the back, right in the middle, it either goes all white or reverts to normal operation.
Problem--While I've no problem opening any PC up at any time, is this a possible loose connection, or should I let an experienced professional fix it? I've been repairing PC's for a number of years, but my laptop experience has always been in the body, not the display panel.
Please, as this machine is somewhat mission-critical (its being used with an external monitor now, but that hardly makes it portable), only experienced replies need respond--
Thanks in advance

Sounds like the "generator" that powers the screen and charges the particles in the display may be either going bad, or it is a loose connection. Displays are a bear to mes with. Leave it on for a while, if it feels hot to the touch after about 30 mins-60 mins, then it may be an internal component. Best thing is to take it to an authorized Toshiba repair center. Call toshiba, and see if it is still under warranty (which it still may be).
