A friend of mine is looking for a laptop (mainly business in the insurance industry) and he is getting crappy advice and I'm trying to help him. I told him i7 or Ryzen 7000+ or above, 32 gigs of ram expandable (if needed), NVME harddrive (no SSD or mechanical hd), dedicated graphics so it doesn't take away from ram...nothing hardcore something like a 4050 or AMD equivalent. Thanks for suggestions.

Thanks for all that have looked at this post so far. Also my friend is looking for a laptop that can project multiple monitors. From what I have read that requires Thunderbolt 3 or an adaptive device. He is also wanting a laptop that can open pdfs, spreadsheets, etc...but I told him that is software you buy or comes with the laptop. He is wanting to spend about $1500 if that helps.

Coming here rarely but due I was also looking for a laptop I can maybe give some opinion.

Will be good knowing if he needs more a very portable like 13-14" display or having more room like a 15-16".

He is doing heavy spreadsheets compute so needs powerful cpu, a lot of RAM and fast ssd?

He is needing working in mobility so battery time is important, or he is working mostly connected. He is doing presentations or mostly office work.

Why a discrete GPU? I suppose he is not gaming, and iGPU like AMD 780M are very capable, providing much better battery time than a discrete one. If he uses mostly standard Ms Excel this is not GPU accelerated, so a fast CPU is all what he needs.

What kind of software does he use?
