Laptop suggestions >$1k?

I haven't been following the laptops lately, but now I was asked what's a good laptop preferably under $1000.

Only lighter older games are a concern, size maybe 14"-16" and just (reasonably) fast. It has to be cool and semi-long lasting as the current laptop overheats or at least cooks. It should be able to play videos/flash and that type of thing.

Criteria:
14-16"
Fast
Some discrete gpu, nothing top of the line
COOL in temperature

I'll do some looking and add some options if I find something, but just looking for any suggestions from those following laptops.
