i tried replacing the hard drive in a laptop, and it stopped working after i got it all closed up. i mean it wont even turn on. there is no power going to it besides the LED on the front that says power is connected.

obviously everything isnt broken because the LED turns on, but NOTHING powers on...the hard drive wont spin, the fans dont turn...nothing

i have no idea why. i took it all apart to see if something was wrong and now im just at a dead end and im going to jump out my window if i cant fix this because its not mine..ARGGGGGGG

please help :(

check for anything loose ram cpu hdd connections everything then try it again you might have bumped something in the process of replacing the hdd

also if a floppy is present make sure the power wire is attached

same with hdd and is it jumpered right?

just things to check first

hrm, i'd take it apart again, and make sure you didn't somehow cut one of the power supply wires. also make sure the PS connector to the motherboard is plugged in (could have jarred halfway loose or something)

laptops are a big pain in the ass to work on, and so much stuff is propriatary... check the website for any schematics that you can check out

You did not remove the processor did you? I removed the HSF and K63 processor from a laptop to get to some switches in the socket. I put it back together... no go. It turned out that I did not lock the sliding processor retention in enough. Booted right up after that.

I would go back in and make sure EVERY little connection is the way it should be. I'm talking every jump, every cable, every type of connection possible. Disconnect everything one by one, clean the contacts, and reconnect them. Recently I had a similar problem, and it was because I accidentally set two drives on the same chain to master.
