Laptop stops completly

Okay, here's my situation. I have a Sony Vaio laptop. The model is VGN-A240B. It recently stopped working completely. It just shut off and wouldn't power back on. No fan, no lights, nothing. I sent it in to Sony for repairs and just got it back yesterday. They said they replaced the mother board, and it started working again.

Then, today, the same thing happened!!! This time, the tech support person was able to have me do some reset stuff to get it working again. This time it started up again (last time it didn't). The only thing I can think of is that I had installed a memory upgrade about a week before the first failure. Is it possible for memory to cause an entire mobo to short out? I thought that if the memory was bad that the computer was just blue screen or something. Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately that doesn't really help. I need to know if the memory I added can actually kill a motherboard of if it's something else. Thanks!

Adding anything to a Sony is perilous. I would say yes - the problem is the added memory. The only way to deal with Sonys is to leave them as they come for the factory. They are so proprietary they "don't play well with others."

Anyway - it is easy to find out. Remove the added memory and restore it to OEM condition.
