If you applied for a job at Old Navy, Banana Republic, Gap and Outlet stores from the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada between July 2006 and June 2007, your data was on the stolen laptop, including your SSN.

Any reason why someone needs to carry around personal data on 800,000 people? No, not really. Was it encrypted? No, although company policy said it must be.

Since this type of thing seems to be happening MORE often, not less, I guess it's smart to assume we'll all be the victim of identity theft eventually. After all, I don't see companies having to pay huge penalties when this stuff happens. But they'll give you a year of free credit monitoring.

Link to story at CNN.

I'm in the military, my social is put on more things than I could count. Im pretty sure I could get everybodys social that I work with in 5 mins if I came in on the weekend. I've kinda stopped caring about who has it, now Im not saying that that's a good thing, just the way it is.

I agree. I have letters from banks, employers, and the VA telling me my information was on a stolen laptop. My stuff is in the wild now, so it doesn't make any difference if someone new gets it. They probably could have bought it anyway.
