Working in the graduate division of another University of California, we are feeling the heat from the dean to make sure this doesn't happen to us too.

It's not a possibility, it's a fact. Some dumb fvck was too cheap or too lazy to lockup his/her laptop w/ a $5 kensington microsaver. Glad I'm not a Cal student. They'll never recover the laptop. We've had laptops stolen in broad day light on campus before, never recovered, the cops are useless.

I wonder if that guy also stole a couple of bikes to get away in a breathtaking speed chase across campus.

Berkeley, probably like many campuses out there, doesn't have the most forward-thinking administration/bureaucracy.

Let's hope the they put that information on an encrypted NTFS partition (at the very least).

It's probably on a fvcking unencrpted, non password protected excel spreadsheet.

Especially considering how long they waited to noitify people. And in the meantime 100,000 credit cards are charging up a storm.

Doubt it. It's probably on one of those note things you can put on your desktop
