laptop still slow after full Restore?? (HP G62)

Laptop was bogged to bloated molasses.

Laptop was running VERY hot and rattling.
Replaced the fan with a $5 Ebay generic.

Then, I did a system restore. Laptop still is slow as balls.
How is this possible? It's not like the laptop is "clogged"
It either works or it doesn't. Digital.
Is there a way for hardware to run slowly after a full software/OS restore?

Makes no sense to me.

Yes, it was the hard drive.
I had a spare 250GB SSD lying around ($130?)
I figured I'd just try that, instead of buying another $50 HD.
Using Acronis 11 right from Win7,
I cloned the old drive (with brand new image) onto the SSD drive.
Laptop is now fast as hell. Better than when new.

When you replaced the fan, I assume you cleaned the interior, yes? Got rid of all the dust and so forth?

For how long were you using the lappy before the lag (or bog) arrived? And, did it arrive slowly or suddenly?

Have you done full virus and malware scans?

Does yr SDD have lots of junk? Did the lappy ship with the SSD or did you install it? How full is it? How old is it?

Are the high temps something new?

Do U mean you did a clean install on the drive or a rollback of the system using sys restore?

OK, hold on, the lappy in question is not the Inspiron desktop you list the specs of in yr signature, right? If that is right, please give us the specs and identity of the lappy.

And, if the lappy in question has a mechanical drive, it may well be "clogged." Forget, fragged into oblivion.

Does the partition need to be manually formatted?
I think the restore is on another partition?

Yes, a clean install is a clean install. But that's not what you did.

Yes, you need to remove any existing partitions and reformat the drive and start from sratch.

Unless, of course you are trying to retain yr files, etc.

If so, even tho it's dual core, it doesn't look that old. Again, how old is it? How much mileage is on it? Are you the original owner?

Edit: Re Ketchup's offering of maybe HDD is dying, and even tho SMART can miss things, no harm in getting Speed Fan and running the SMART diagnostics on the drive. It will take you online and produce a report.

System restore only works with AC cord.

I did a clean HP system restore. Has some bloatware, etc.

I did a restore 2 months ago, and it was lightning fast again.

Not trying to retain files.
Can I format the drive and still do a HP restore?
The HP baseline image is stored on a diff partition?

I will try to run SMART diagnostics, but this laptop is painful to even pretend to use.

INTEL processors slow down when they are hot (whereas AMDs burn up), so make sure the whole system has adequate cooling. Also, "Wipe"/"ZAP" the HDD before attempting any reinstall/restore. Before that even, check all the BIOS settings to ensure nothing is out of place or is set incorrectly/sub-optimally.

Would be a good opportunity to get an SSD.

If we are talking SATA it would be pretty much the same process for both. Just plug them in, boot up your Windows OS like normal, then run the cloning software you like.

Are laptop HD's just another SATA connection like a desktop tower?
If so, I will somehow have to connect 3 SATA's to my tower.
1) Desktops's Win OS.
2) Slow Laptop SATA.
3) New Laptop SATA.
