Hi guys, I'm thinking of installing a SSD in my Acer Aspire E5-771G-50JP Bilingual Notebook. It doesn't have an optical drive. I'm planning to replace my HD with an SSD, and then install that HD in the empty space of the optical drive bay.

I'm thinking of getting an SSD around 500GB size.
Mushkin Enhanced Chronos 2.5" 480GB SATA III $199.99 CAD
Crucial BX10 2.5" 500GB SATA 6Gbps (SATA III) $239.99 CAD
or something else, I'm open to suggestions

So, besides the SSD, I'm guess I need to get some sort of caddy and a SATA cable? I need help on these parts, I'm not really sure which ones I need to get.

Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

Notebookcheck opened one up: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Aspire-E5-771G-Notebook-Review.136653.0.html

If you open it up, you can check if that additional m.2 port found by the guys at notebookcheck under the non-removable battery is present on your version of E5-771G. This way you can purchase directly a m.2 ssd and there is no need for other bells and whistles.

Either way, your gonna have to tear it apart as it would be wise to check if that sata optical drive port is present on the motherboard of your non-optical E5-771G version if you go down the route of a optical 2.5 inch enclosure.

And also, check if it is possible to fit a optical drive in first place! Since your version came with no optical drive, the case of the notebook may not allow literally inserting an optical drive.

take a look at the sandisk ultra II 480GB from NCIX. i paid $219 CAD.

and Sandisk will provide a free cloning program(apricorn EZ IV cloning software) if you install sandisk SSD dashboard and click on the link i the tools section when its open. It worked well for me. you will need a usb to sata cable to make it very easy.

A quick search of the webz seems to indicate that there is not an optical bay HDD adapter that will fit your model.

who?

The current version of this model has an SSD as well as a HDD. Since it doesn't have an optical drive what makes you think that it has an optical drive bay?

Thanks for that link! I had actually opened it up already, and found plenty of room to put in a second drive and so was planning to go with a optical bay HDD adapter. But I completely forgot to check under the battery. Today I removed the battery from the board and there it was, an empty port :) :) :) I'm an idiot.
Now I don't need to look for a optical bay HDD adapter for this model.

Thank you everyone for your help :)

Edit: As for the empty space, I think I'll try fitting in an old dvd drive I have lying around :)
