P3 750 (always powered not battery) 600 w/ battery
256 SD Ram
20 gig 4200

I have to drop the resolution down to 800 x 600 when i put it on the TV this usually helps with movies. But for instance i cannot play the scrubs tv series on the laptop (downloaded copy) Its sooo off sync (video slower than the audio)

I know DiVX wants around 1000mhz but why do all the other movies work fine? Should i step this laptop up to 512 and a 7200 or should i just go ahead and sell it and grab a new 700m?

PS: I know its the laptop cuz the tv show runs perfect on my main pc which is only a 2500+ 1gig DDR, stripped raptors

That's strange, I ran divx files fine on my P3-450 MHz (several years back) with 256MB PC100 RAM. Have you tried other softwares to playback the files? Sometimes one player plays it better than another.

Are you sure the dub is in sync? The specs on that lappy are plenty to play DivX. As an example I play DivX movies ony my Axim X5 just fine.

Yeah, I'd play the file in something more powerful to determine if they pooched it or not.

Sorry Jim I miss shat scanning threads :D I'd just sell that old beast and buy a new one before sinking money in a faster HDD and more ram for it. In the end it'll still just be a P3 750 powering it.

the thing is is does everything i need it to BUT that.

Its just wierd how it works on slower systems (stated here) and not on the laptop

If they could only bring the 700m's back to 750...i promise ill buy this time.

Yeah, my XBOX plays every divx/Xvid file or any other format except WMV HD I've tried perfectly so that is kind of weird. If you have a LAN did you try streaming it over the network and see what happens? <---may be a stupid idea/suggestion :D

My PIII-600 mobile plays everything including DVD in 1024x768 just fine.

What you might miss is:

1) DMA turned on on DVD drive

2) video hardware acceleration. Most video cards have hardware support for color conversion and scaling. On Unix look out for X11 servers with working XVideo extension. On Windows equivalent, you need a drive and yoru software needs to make use of it

divx has become more processor intensive in newer versions - I can't play it on my p2 300 lappy anymore, and back at version 3/4 it worked fine.
