It's like going from IDE to USB, but I'm wondering if it's possible to use a standard laptop slim drive (such DVDROM, CDRW, etc...) and convert the connector to USB. We might be able to do a combo where the slim drive to standard IDE then from IDE to USB.

I found IDE to USB but haven't found 50-pin slim drive to IDE or 50-pin slim drive to USB 2.0 (preferrably 2.0). Do these converters even exist?

I know there is slim IDE to regular IDE, so maybe get one of those, then use the IDE to USB?

The slim IDE you're talking about isn't the same as 2.5" hard drive IDE is it? I think the connector for slim OPTICAL drives are different from 2.5" hard drives. I'm looking for the convertor for my brother's car since he already has a decent slim DVD/CDRW.
