Laptop sleeps when lid is closed...

A friend of mine has Win98SE installed on a laptop computer (bleh). The option for "When I close the lid on my portable computer" in Control Panel>Power Management simply isn't there. Apparently, Win98 thinks that it is installed on a desktop computer, so it hides laptop-specific options such as this. How can I tell Win98 that it is running on a laptop computer?

It's marginally hardware - actually firmware. In all my laptops, that setting is in the BIOS. I didn't find this note cross posted in another topic - should probably be Operating System.
