Laptop shuts off on battery

Hi all,

I have a Compaq Evo N600C laptop running Windows XP Pro SP2. It runs great on AC power but shuts down without warning when on battery. In testing, I have found that it has something to do with the XP System Restore feature as the problem goes away when I turn this off. It also runs OK on battery in Safe mode. I have run virus and spyware scans and nothing was found. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I'd permanently disable system restore, remove all it's backups and have the battery and charging circuit checked out.
