laptop show white screen for a sec, then NOTHING

Hello and thanks for any ideas.



This is a laptop whose screen will only go on for a quick second (it actually just shows a 1/2 sec burst of white), then black screen. I can hook up an external monitor and everything works. I thought it was the screen, but replacing it had the same effect. Could it be the ribbon?

Yes, it could be the ribbon / inverter / or system board connector.
