What material are most laptop shells made from? Is it just a high impact plastic?

I have a laser engraving business and have a customer that wants me to engrave their laptops with the company's security info. The only problem is that if the shell is made of a PVC material I can't do it, as the burning of PVC releases a poisonous gas and corrosive also.
