linksys wrt54g router with 128 bit wap key enabled.
tivo works fine to it.
new dell inspiron 6000 with intel wireless pro 2200 b/g wireless

card says it sees it my router, i typed in the wap key and it took it fine. great signal strength (sitting 10 ft away anyhow)--speed = 54.0 mMbps. dhcp is enabled in the router, but i cant seem to get an ip addr assigned. status = "Limited or no connectivity"

there was a 'repair' button that disconnected/reconnected: failed
i tried ipconfig /release then /renew: failed
reboot: failed

what next?

decided one more time to retype in wep key and that did it. i think i mistyped the letter O for a zero (new hex, eh?)

yes, you did most likely. With wireless, there are 2 steps. Association (which is "are you using this authentication method) and then authentication (Here are my authentication credentials) which then associates. If you are using Open authentication (or shared) and can Associate (see the AP, get signal) but fail to get an IP, then it's because you cannot decrypt the encrypted packets from the AP. (aka wep/wpa problems).
