Laptop Security

I'm going off to college quite soon, and I will have a laptop. I'm looking for recommendations on security devices. Do those locks really work well? I mean the bike lock type things that like plug into the side of the laptop. Also, I'm looking at a motion sensor that would be attached to the laptop through the same method as the cable lock. If it moves, its alarm will go off. This would be useful if im just leaving my laptop around some place for a short period of time, like if I have to go across a room for a little while. This sensor also comes with a short cable to lock the laptop to something. What would you guys recommend? Anyone have any experience with a motion sensor like that?
