Laptop Screen Resolution - 24" LCD

I just got a 24" LCD to connect with my laptop. It works, but the screen resolution maxes out at 1024x768.

I was told any laptop can support 1920x1200 as long as it's recent (within past few years), and you connect an external monitor which goes that high.

How do I get it to go higher?

Also any way to close the laptop while still getting a picture on the LCD? Currently, closing the laptop cover makes the 24" LCD turn off.

Go the Display properties, Screen Saver, press the power button, go to the advanced tab, and there will be a selection for:

"When I close the lid of my portable computer:"

select "Do Nothing"

As for the resolution, it sounds like the proper video driver is not installed. Windows XP can run at 1024 x 768 using the generic video driver that it comes with. You need the driver for your video card. What video card is it?

Very strange. I set that setting, and it still goes on standby when I close the cover. Any idea why?
