Laptop screen resloution problem...

Have a compaq presario (given to me) laptop set to default 800x600 res. Want to change to 1024x768, but when I do, the screen stays in what looks like 800x600 mode, except the extra portion can be viewed by sliding the mouse over (the screen itself actually shifts to reveal the space, pusing the left-hand icons out of view. etc.)

What can I do to have the right res that is fully viewable at one time?

same thing happened to me.
but mine is a Nec S900, Radeon 9000 mobile.

can't find a driver to download.
and using WindowXP pro.

Most likely it's a 800x600 screen, are you positive it's not? (post the model #)

Sorry....took a break for a day or so....model #1255. (not in front of it right now, but that's what i remember. they have some standard two letter laptop code in front of that number. if that's important i can get it tonite.)

All of the specs I've found on the unit say it's a 800x600 screen, so I'm afraid your stuck at that res.
