Im a noob to anandtech and Im not sure if im in the right place, but here goes. I have a few laptop screens laying around. 1 is out of a sony vio part #LQ160E1LW04 and 1 from a Toshiba that I havnt dismantled yet to get the screen number. The Sony screen is a 16" and is pretty descent quality and I got the machine free cuz it died. I would like to attempt to convert them to plug into my current system as a secondary display if possible. They take up almost no room and I cant beat the price (free).
My machine that I would like to hook them up to is a Sager NP8890 with a radeon 9600 pro graphics card. It has DVI out and I have a DVI to VGA adapter lying around somewhere. I did read some other forums but most of those guys were using much older displays and some claimed to have it working, but had no proof or guides of any sort. Some things that were mentioned were controller devices and special cables. I am not a noob to building and modifying electrical devices. I would just like to know if it is possible and if anyone has any ideas about it. Im not looking to spend a ton of cash, just an idea that would be cool and practical for me. Any input would be greatly appreciated. If im wasting my time, well at least I tried
