Hey guys, my friend just bought a laptop from dell (refurbed), and i think for the most part everything works fine, except the video.

To my knowledge, its a p3 1ghz with nVidia GO chip. But on almost all the resolutions but the very smallest one, the screen's text is REALLy fuzzy, like unreadable fuzzy. I don't know whats wrong with it... its running on WinME. The problem is kinda like REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY RIDICILOUSLY BAD font smoothing.

anyone know whats wrong? i tried fiddling with the display settings.. nothing.

dont know much else about the laptop... (its not mine), but it is the 8100 series... (and its REALLY heavy.)

thanks yall.

When you say the smallest resolution, are you saying that the items on the screen are smaller (as they would with a high resolution i.e. 1200x1024 or 1024x768 - something like that), or that it's a low resolution (i.e. 640x480)? If you mean that the only time the screen is clear is with a high resolution (like the highest the LCD can display), then that's normal for a laptop display. Because of the way a LCD display is made, it will generally only look good at the resolution it was made for (like my IBM Thinkpad's display only looks the best at 1400x1050). Some laptops (I'm not too familiar with the one you have).

I'm pretty sure this is why the laptop is doing that (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

JW310 is correct. I found out the hard way when I bought a new laptop and it would only display clearly at 1600x1200. I had to return it for a lesser screen (1024x768).
