Laptop screen is now TINY!!! -- PROBLEM SOLVED

thanks for your help guys.... I installed WindowsXP and it resolved the problem automatically

After numerous crashes, decided to wipe the hard drive clean on the IBM laptop, and reinstall everything... I installed win98 (couldnt find my win2k installer), and now the screen is very tiny!!! Before the screen was the size of the whole LCD screen. Now its just a tiny box in the center (about half the screen size).


How do I fix this??? please help!

Go to IBM's site, download the drivers for the display on your laptop, and set the screen to the correct resolution. IBM's support site should be able to help you out.

im trying... i did find a utility that magnifies the screen. This is my brothers laptop, and he is not very techsavvy... so I have no idea if there is any way I can get 600 x 800 resolution, or am I stuck with 400something by 600 something that the laptop now gives me.

Is it possible that the ThinkPad 600 isnt capable of going to higher resolutions? Where would I find that info (yes, I looked on the website...)

If this happens all the time, meaning even right when you turn on the computer, then its not a driver issue. There should be a key combo that fixes this. I know on Dells, it's function F7. If it only happens in windows, then you need to download a video driver from IBM's website. The laptop should most definitely be capable of more than that.

I have seen some Dell laptops that have this screen at startup and then go full screen once windows and the graphics driver has fully loaded.

Also have encountered it with Laptops that have been plugged into a docking station at some point. And lastly, important to note that some monitors rather than coming up with a message saying "frequency out of range" or something when using a high refresh rate will shrink the screen size down to the middle of the monitor....but this should only happen if your refresh / resolution is out of the monitors spec....can't see 640 x 480 being so!

Trying to find updated drivers is definately the priority!

The Thinkpad 600 can with either Win95 or NT, not Win98.

This happens right when I turn on the computer. So this is not a driver issue then?

This will take quite a while to load unless you have a broadband connection.
Then it still takes a minute or so.
