OK...I asked you hardware gurus a question yesterday and BAM!!! you helped me out right away. Now I need some more help from you all knowing peeps!!

I have a fairly new laptop and recently I've been getting this 1 inch strip from top to bottom of very distorted area of the screen. It used to go away, but now it sticks around more times than not. When Windows XP starts up...ie. the black screen with the Win XP logo I don't get the effect..but as soon as I get to the fully loaded desktop thats when it happens....
Any ideas of what is happening???

Thanks

Thats the cop-out answer...I was wondering if anyone knew what might cause this...and this laptop is not sooo new that a warranty is still in place..

It might be a problem with the video card drivers if you don't see it before windows is loaded.

When did the problem start happening? can you place it to an event like a software or hardware install or driver update?
Push gently but firmly around the edges of the LCD and tell me if you see any changes in the distortion, or if it goes away. Also, if you have the laptop always in one position of a desk, try taking it somewhere else, like another room and report if it has the same problem.

You can also try reinstalling/updating your video drivers.

Agreed, regarding the drivers.

I had a similar problem because the heat finally got to the POS vid chip. A sledgehammer rid of the distortion problem, but now no picture shows at all... hmmm... any thoughts?
