Laptop screen intermittently turns cyan (blue) and fuzzy

First, thanks in advance!

Ok, so my laptop is having weird screen issues. Intermittently it will turn cyan (teal blue) with weird shades of blue and ghosting of text. Every once in a while there is a magenta ghosting of text too. It comes and goes at various times, and I have noticed nothing that starts or stops it.

I reinstalled the whole computer using my restore discs for this (and other reasons to clean up a bunch of bloated stuff) and it still happens. I have included screens to show what I mean.

It is an ASUS G50VT series notebook with a 15.4 in LCD monitor
GeForce 9800m GS 512MB GPU
Windows Vista

And its about 2 years old or so.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

1)normal appearing

2)2 minutes later

3)What google looks like

Tried an external monitor yet? That would tell you if it's the video-output hardware, or the LCD display hardware in the laptop.

Yes, an externally hooked up monitor looks perfect.

So does that mean that there is something wrong with the hardware, and not just a software or driver issue with the laptop? Why would it intermittently happen. Again, sometimes the screen looks perfect.

Any solutions?

The inverter is probably going bad. A relatively easy fix. You can google for instructions on how to replace it and probably find a replacement on ebay for under 50 dollars.

Interesting, I'll take a look at that. Thanks. Any chance it may just be loose or something? Again, Its weird to me that it is not constant. Or is that not so weird?

Not really weird if the inverter is failing, eventually what will happen is it will always have the blueish tint then soon after that you'll lose the display altogether.
