laptop screen goes super dark sometimes

recently my laptops screen will go turn dim (to the point I can barely see anything). I have to restart and sometimes its still dim. Restart a few times then its okay.

I thought it was a virus but nothing turned up on the virus scans.
 
It sounds like the backlight in the LCD screen is going out (or there is a short circuit somewhere in the connection to the bulb).
 
Its likely that the backlight or the inverter for the light is going bad. You can either replace the laptop or have the LCD replaced. LCD replacement will run you about $200 or more for the parts alone.
