Laptop screen flickers then goes dark

I'm not used to working on laptops. At first, the screen was dark but the image could be seen if looking close enough. From what I read, this looked like a problem with the inverter. I ordered a cheap one from amazon and replaced it. It seemed to work for a little bit but after being on for about 10 mins, the screen would start to flicker and would go dark again. Would this indicate a problem with the back light? or could I have received a bad inverter? The reason I think that something might be wrong with the inverter is because it is acting different than it did before. Before it would be dark all of the time. Now, it works for about 10 mins then flickers for a few more and then goes dark.
The laptop is an old Dell Vostro 1500 so not worth spending much on to fix but would spend another $4 on a inverter if I thought it would have a chance of working. Thanks for any tips.

probably a problem with the new inverter.

was thinking that also, since the issue is different than before. When a backlight goes out I'd assume it normally just wouldn't work? I wouldn't expected it to be intermitted but really didn't know. Thanks for the help

i agree, when a back light is dead...it's dead. you swapped the inverter and the symptom changed, but sounds like a constant problem. for <$10, i'd just go for it.
