Laptop Screen Flickering

So, the warrantee on my lap top just ran up and now the screen is flickering, and not just a little bit.

It's a Toshiba Techra, with a Radeon 9000.

I've googled the problem and it looks like it may just be a loose wire. My questions are:

how do I confirm this is the problem? (without opening it up, I rolled back drivers and installed new ones without seeing any change)

How do I go about opening the laptop up and fixing it? Will I need to solder something? Is it just cleaning contacts?

Thanks! any help is appreciated.

The problem is the CABLE THAT RUNS to the back of the LCD. It will probly be pinched somewhere along the hinges of the laptop/ where it closes on. They are really thin kinda wide cables (half an inch by a 100th of a mm) and very very very easy to tear. If you tear it its about $150 for a new cable.

If you have never opened a laptop up before... this is NOT the project to start on. Get a friend who knows what they are doing to do it for you, and you can watch. Sorry to put it that way, but this really requires taking apart most of the computer, its not a simple hard drive swap or upgrade ram.

Hey soulhack, thanks for the help. It's a fairly old laptop... I do not think I know anyone to take care of it. Do you live in the Boston area by any chance? hah
