Laptop Screen Dying

Hi. The screen on my laptop (Compaq Presario 700) is dying and keeps changing into weird colors. I tried the Compaq system restore, but the screen is still messed up. My warranty is over so I can't get a replacement. Is there any way to fix this? And if there isn't, what should I do to replace the screen?

First isolate where the problem is....

there are 4 possibilities...
1) LCD gone bad
2) Connector gone BAD
3) Graphic Card gone bad
4) Software / Driver problem...

First, whenever its giving weird colours, connect it to an external monitor. If the problem appears there also, your lcd and connector are fine, and its a software/GPU problem.

Does the problem appear in DOS as well ? If it does, its NOT a driver/software issue.

You can just buy a new LCD if needed from compaq, ebay, or some other online retailer. But follow abhi's advice first.

Check your connections for the brick on your power adapter if your running your laptop from wall power and/or can not use the battery. A low current can cause the problems you talked about with your LCD screen.

When I hooked it up to an external monitor, it worked fine, and it works fine in DOS. So it's either the LCD or the connector. Is it easy to replace an LCD yourself (I'm decently competent with hardware installations) or would I need to send it in to Compaq?

Replacing the monitor on the laptop? Hrmm if you gonna order a new screen might as well just buy another laptop. Unless you can find a dead laptop computer same model but monitor functional. Half the value of the laptop is in the monitor. The other half is in the motherboard.

This seems to have fixed the problem for now, thanks! So, would you suggest me just getting another power adapter?
