laptop screen distorts when tilted

Hey guys I found an HP8510 laptop on the computer garbage pile at my job and obviously there is a reason why someone (most likely my boss) put a 1k+ laptop in that pile.

It was overheating, I took it apart and applied new thermal paste and cleared out the quarter inch of dust blocking the heatsink/vent (nice design HP). So now that it doesnt shut off after 1 minute... the only issue I have it that the screen goes all white and cloudy and filled with lines unless it is tilted towards the keyboard. Maybe 45 degrees from the keyboard, kind of tough to use obviously.

I fooled with the connector cable to the mobo and nothing happened, do you think this is an inverter issue? I figured the screen was busted when i first turned the hting on but since it does have the capability to display perfectly clear I imagine something is loose....

thanks!

My wife's laptop did this, and it was a faulty video cable. $15 and an hour of work later, and it's worked perfectly for the past few years. I found the cable on ebay and found a tutorial with the help of Google.
