laptop screen almost dead

I have a Compaq V5305WM laptop my girl uses. The bottom 1/3 of the screen is about dead. You have to squeeze together the bottom left corner of the screen to get it to show up. When you release the image on the bottom 1/3 freezes and sort of grays out. Everything else works great.

Is there anything I can do other than replace the screen? And if not, where would the best place be to get one?

buy a new lcd and replace it. about $200 or more.

When I puchased laptop it was a $299 special from Wal_mart. I hate to put a $200 screen in it.

Move the task bar to the top of the screen. Resize all the windows so they fit within the top 2/3.
