Happened awhile back but it's finally starting to drive me nuts. Suddenly it happened and now whenever i click Shut Down, it only restarts. If i want it to shut down i have to physically turn off the machine.

FYI, it's an HP ZE5170

Anybody have any ideas why it's doing this/how to fix it?

Thanks

What OPERATING SYSTEM?!?! There are no mind readers here. If you're on XP, turn off the Auto Reboot When Bill Gate's Software Craps Itself function. Right click My Computer and go to Properties, its in one of the tabs. It could be that on shutdown, the computer is throwing an error message causing XP to reboot. Had that problem a while back with a hardware conflict...drove me nuts trying to figure it out :D

oh yeah, it is XP, sorry about that little bit of missing info..hah.

Anyhow, if there wasn't a problem, your solution would've fixed it. Now it tries to completely shut down but it give me a "blue screen error". errrrr. It's error "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" 0x0000000A I searched google for this and all the reported problems were while trying to install XP Pro. I've always had XP Pro and have never upgraded any hardware. Suddenly it just started doing this. I've never messed with the hardware or the OS.
