I have the need to rent a laptop for a few days for a conference i'm traveling to. It will be used for a few personal things, and for a presentation. I also have the need for maybe a 15-17" lcd on the side also. Has anyone ever tried any of these kind of services?

Buy a laptop from bestbuy use it for a weekend, return it. Then rot in hell.

Yeah, I did that once... we concluded that it was cheaper, easier, and more reliable to buy a cheap laptop.

When I last went to a conference, my company gave me a laptop to use. It was a 14-inch Dell, it was probably three years old, and the battery wouldn't hold a charge. I didn't care much, though, 'cause it was light-weight, I was just using it for a week, it came with a bag, and it was free.

I've never attended a conference where they didn't have a laptop set up for the presentations and access to the Internet for conference attendees. However, I've only attended engineering-related conferences.

Why do you need it? If it is a conference in a hotel, you may want to check with them. If it is a presentation at another company, check with that company and see if they will have the equipment available. If so, you will simply need a CD or DVD burned with your data/presentation.

The Chicago Hilton is charging something like $500 PER DAY for laptop/inet. Utterly ridiculous.

Yes.

It's about $100-200/week. Look for place that rent out projectors, they usually carry laptops too. Though it would ultimately be cheaper to buy a used laptop.

Even though I hate the place y not rent one from rent a center or a place like it for the 2-4 weeks you need it? May be the cheapest option and if your lucky will get a new one 😀
