Need a new laptop that is of 15.4" form factor w/ 16:10 1920x1200 screen resolution (i.e. not 1920x1080 or any lower).

Preferably it comes with a S-IPS panel as well...

any recommendations?

Thanks!!

There aren't really any laptops with IPS panels. There used to be a very few, Thinkpads I think had them. But at this point, I don't think there are any.

Also, 1920*1200 is getting harder to find, any particular reason why 1080 will not work?

What I mean is, lets say you have 5 laptops to choose from, with a wide range of prices and features. And you have 4 of them with 1080 panels, and only 1 with the 1200. What if the 1080 systems are much better values? Or the 1200 is just much, much more expensive?

I know a bunch of dell screens use to be S-IPS.. i have a dell vostro right now that is S-IPS 1920x1200 but it is dieing on me...

i'm willing to pay a premium for 1920x1200 ... i just want the vertical space... too bad they dont make 1600x1200 screens too =[

My Clevo M860TU has such a screen. Well, don't know the exact screen type but the vertical viewing angle is pretty good and it is 1920x1200 in a 15.4" size. But, don't ask to buy it because you can't afford it. :p (2.8Ghz mobile C2D, GeForce 9800M, 256GB Indilinx controller SSD, 8GB DDR3, Blu Ray)

I did a quick check and looks like most companies went to 1920x1080.

I don't believe modern notebooks come in IPS. IPS uses 3x the power of TN/VA's so it kinda defeats purpose of installing them in a notebook and they cost a lot. HP's elite books are rumored but I've never believed it as they start fade at ~70 degrees - my guess is they have an excellent polarizer instead. Check out the Elite books.

Edit here is something you may find interesting...maybe?

You're talking ~$3000 once you add the optional $570 dreamcolor 10-bit IPS 1920x1200 display. Is it in ya?:p

The Thinkpad T61p (http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T61p) and W500 (http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:W500) comes in 15.4" with 1920x1200 option. They're most likely not IPS though. Lenovo has gotten cheap during/after the T/X60 series.

The T60p (http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T60p) might be the last Thinkpad to use IPS and support 1600x1200. The T61p/T60p is old, but probably can be bought for cheap if you look for it. They're not slow for most things.

I have a X61t 1400x1050, T42p 1600x1200, and HP2475w (monitor) 1920x1200, all with IPS. I don't need it, but it's nice to have. :)

I actually have x2 dells (one vostro one inspiron) that are both S-IPS ... they're from the LG/Philips fab and have excellent viewing vertical viewing angles...

S-IPS is actually a 2nd priority -- im mostly looking for the pixels.. im OK with TN too.
