Laptop Recommendation: Could I get one too?

Hello all. I have about 1600 to 1800 dollars to spend on a laptop. I'm looking for a laptop with the following:

-- fast processor
-- at least 256MB of RAM (on just one DIMM)
-- a decent graphics card
-- 60GB harddrive
-- xxxx by 1000+ resolution screen (with a good viewing angle and uniform contrast throughout)

I don't really care too much about weight (though, of course, the lighter the better) nor battery life. I had a Dell Inspiron 5150 but I couldn't stand using the keyboard because of where the tilde and Windows keys are placed; I use the two of them extensibly. I was also a bit dismayed at the build quality. I could feel the case straining when I tried lifting the laptop up with one hand.

At this price range, with this wishlist, what can you recommend?

Thanks.

If you did not like quality of the Dell, than the other suggestions I have as far as manufacturers go are IBM and Sager.

Gateway, Toshiba, HP, Compaq all have about the same build quality. The exceptions are the business lines Latitude from Dell and Evo from Compaq/HP. The Latitude line is made by Quanta which is widely held as the best ODM.

I just customized a Dell 8600 that seems to meet or beat what you want. It came to about 2150 after a savings of $150 and a before a rebate of 150. Seems like that's the lowest I have ever foubd that model priced. Also priced a Gateway 350 (I think) that had about what you want and it ran less than 1700 if I remember correctly. Have been pricing too many lately. Bekker

I'm a Centrino fan....

Dell Latitude D600 or D800 (build quality is much better, but probbably same keyboard).
Acer TravelMate 800 series
IBM T40
Gateway 450XL (not really high on my list build quality sucks, but has nice features)

Yes actually Dell, Compaq, Gateway, Apple, HP, IBM, Sony, Sharp, Fujitsu, Siemens are all made by Quanta in some way or another. However I believe that Quanta makes about 70% of the Latitude line and had alot of input in its design from the beginning. Quanta does different things for different lines all the way from design to assembly. Maybe this clarifies a little bit of my statement for you...

Indeed, the price and form factor seem to fit my wishlist. I've never heard of this company before, though. How do these laptops perform? What's the build quality like? Customer service?

This machine (Uniwill N251C2) was sold by MicroPro as the MicroNote Pro 530 a while back.... the only vendors that still seem to carry them are Newgenpc.com and Pronet.com (likely the same company)
