Ok so my girl screwed up her windows and i have to reinstall it for her, i was looking and she has like 512MB ram, its a 1.8GHz intel singlecore laptop

so i want to make the easy and cheap upgrade to 2GB ram for her, but which speed should i buy ? i know i can probly read what it says on the original ram sticks she has in there now,

but the question is how can i find out if her laptop can support faster ram than the one that came with it ?

(like my desktop can support 800MHz ram and 1066 MHz but i duno about laptops)

thanks

Use CPU-Z and tell us what the manufacturer and what edition it says the CPU is in CPU-Z (like my laptop is a Santa Rosa).

ok im just reinstalling windows now, the toshiba website says it uses DDR2 but does not say 533, 667, or whatever speed the ram is supported

here - this is what the CPU is as from the toshiba web site "Intel® Celeron M processor 410 (1.46GHz, 533MHz FSB, L1 Cache 32KB/32KB, L2 Cache 1MB)"

In daily use, you wouldn't be able to recognize 533 from 667 so just buy whichever one you can get for a better deal.

In a system like that, coming from 512MB, the speed of the RAM is irrelevant. The quantity is what is important and that is what will actually make a difference to the performance of the machine.
