here is the problem. i have the Fujitsu s2110 laptop and i am trying to upgrade to 2gb of ram. currently i have 1.5gb of ram, for some reason when i switch the 512 to another stick of 1gb, windows xp would not start. and if i go down to 1 stick of 1gb, windows xp wouldnt boot... it would boot only if the original 512mb stick is in there....

can anyone tell me what's going on? thanks!

Check the frequency and timings of the original 512MB stick.

Your laptop might require PC3200 memory, using the faster, 400MHz part as a shared Video Memory, and the system memory running at PC2700 - 333MHz speed.

Make sure your 1GB stick is rated for both PC3200 and PC2700 speeds.

Let me know if that works.

You don't give me much info, do you LOL. Is it DDR or DDR2 memory?

I never had a problem with compatibility with PNY memory, but have heard of Kingston causing problems. Try PNY Optima...

UPDATE: Just checked the specs of your laptop - that's exactly your problem: Radeon x200 chipset needs DDR400 RAM to operate, but your system needs only DDR333.

I got 1GB of Simple Tech memory at Office Max for my Compaq with the same X200 chipset, it is rated at DDR400, DDR333 and DDR266, and it works fine installed in SLOT 1, where the Video memory is "borrowed" from the system.

You need the memory rated for DDR400 and DDR333 speeds to work in Slot1.
