Laptop RAID question...

I'm going to be doing some pretty hefty video editing soon and I'd like to get one of those external firewire enclosures. A 6 drive one, with two DVD burners, and 4 RAIDed hard drives. 0+1 I believe, a mirrored set of striped drives. Now, what's the best way to do a RAID with this set up? Are there enclosures that have built in RAID? Is there another kind of hardware solution? Does software RAID totally suck?
