I am buying a laptop.
I am looking at the Sony GRT1000 with the 16.1 inch 1600x1200 screen, half-gb of ram, DVD+-RW, and a 60gb hdd (cause they wanted $10 per gb to go up to a 80gb drive, and with an 80gb drive, i would still need an external drive for all my crap)
What do yall think of Sony? Are thier laptops high quality? Any major issues with them?
Also, I can get a MUCH faster processor for the same price (something like 600mhz) if i use an P4 instead of a Mobile P4. What are the differences between these two types of processors, and which do you reccomend?
Thanks

The P4 and the P4m are basically the same CPU, but the P4m is a lower voltage version, which therefore runs cooler, and uses slightly less power.

If you're talking about the Pentium-M (aka Banias aka Centrino - which is a redesigned architecture, not a P4), then a 1.3GHz P-M is about the same speed as a 1.8GHz P4(m), 1.4~2.0, 1.5~2.2, 1.6~2.4, in most cases, obviously slower/faster depending on the type of app you're running.

The Pentium-M is generally used in the "thin and light" style notebooks, whereas the P4(m) is generally more of a "desktop replacement".

It depends on which is more important to you, weight, size and battery life, or more raw processing power, at the expense of battery life and weight

The Pentium 4 Mobile will throttle down when on batteries, so when you don't need all the speed you can save battery instead.
Unless you plan to always have your laptop pluged in, it is better to choose the P4 M.
