Laptop question

a friend is buying a new laptop and is wondering if the $200-300 warranty is necessary. Another friend who works at best buy swears by the warrantys and says its absolutely necessary, without question, because the battery and Screen fail or partially fail often. his bros laptop lost color in the bottom right of the screen and dell fixed it under warranty.... the friend who is buying has a very tight budget and doesnt want to spend an extra 200$ on top of 1200-1400$... what do you guys think?????????

depends how paranoid the person is
or how lucky they feel
I got mine with a 1yr warranty which was the standard
i didn't pay extra for a bigger warranty
i figure if something goes out then screw it
if it is a hard drive or something i can replace or repair then i will
i try to see myself as careful enough to not damage it

I would strongly recommend getting some sort of extended warranty on the screen. It is quite easy to accidently ruin a screen and if you do, you might as well throw the laptop out as they are very expensive to repair in proportion to the original cost of the laptop. You really have to drop a laptop or do something quite rough to damage any other part of it. Most of the other parts can be replaced for less than the $200-300 warranty cost.

mski003, I got the 3 year-extended warranty w/ my Dell laptop, one of the only items I have every bought a warranty for. My reasoning is that there are a lot of comonents [including the screen] that if they went south, it's cost way too much to fix and or find the replacement part. Hope this helps 🙂

My grandson accidently spilled clear water in his Sony Vaio laptop and Sony wanted $700 money in front before they would even look at it. It was an amazing coincidence that it cost $700 to repair it.
