Specs: 486 100dx, with 800 megs hd space, 16 meg ram. Win95 first version(the non cd version) 1 floopy drive, no cd drive.

But the 486, i counlnt upgrade to win98 or win95 cd version when i tried several years ago cause i dindnt have cd drive.

Reason for interest in this old thing is i set up a network for parents house and my dad wants to use the laptop for internet. I
havent tried and i dont have laptop here with me but i am pretty sure i need the win95 flopys(i dont have them) and i cant use the win95 CD via parrellal connection cause from memory servearl years back, win95CD version and win95 floopy are not campatiable.
SO if i buy a pcmcia nic card, how am i suppose to update the dam tcip drivers etc.. to log on?

Any suggestions???

PS. dont rember the brand it was win** something but specs are correct. I have win 95 cd/98 cd.. Just want to upgrade possible to win95 cd version. Solution off of my head, just get a PCmcia cd drive(waste of $$), but possible issues met be i need win floopys anyways or it met not work. Or i could just waste all my time and take hd out and upgrade install off another laptop.

You can use peer to peer networking, using NetBEUI to connect to the PC with a CDROM to upgrade your laptop. You will need Win95 SP1 on the laptop, available for floppy disks here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/common/servicepack1/svcpk1diskset.asp?site=95

Make sure you enable file and print sharing on both PC and laptop, and share the CDROM on the PC.

Step by step peer to peer connections is available here:
http://winfiles.cnet.com/howto/peercon.html
This one is very good and is just for peer to peer/Internet connecting.

Info on peer to peer networking is here:

You can get a Netgear FA410TX for your laptop ($60 at Best Buy). This PC card comes with WFWG and Win9x drivers on floppy disk, and is made for 386/486/Pentium processors. (You can get a Netgear 310 for the PC for about $20.)

Install the PC card, load Win95 SP1 on the laptop, establish peer to peer networking with NetBEUI to the PC, upgrade your laptop OS with the shared PC CDROM, and you should be set! Good luck.
