I'm looking for a cheap laptop (like $400-500 Tiger Direct new or FS/FT forums here), I just want to run a couple applications, not going to be hooked up to the internet or anything. The only thing I desire, is screen size. I have a 20.1" LCD widescreen right now, does anyone know if standard laptops can do dual screen, or if the VGA/DVI port unless otherwise noted, just projects the same picture?

Secondly, would typical notebook video cards go up to my 1680x1050 resoultion, or is that something I'll have to look into? Newegg, TigerDirect, all those places don't seem to specify, how can I know it can handle my resolution?

Thanks in advance,
Jim

It should be able to handle the resolution, the problem is that it may be able to handle it in windows... but not gaming at least not at that price. But you wil be able to run the two displays at two different resolutions as well

Dell laptops offer port replicators that allow you to install a PCI video card that is capable of handling dual-screens at the same resolution.
