Laptop question, need some help (ram)

Ok I have a little dilema..

I bought this dell inspiron 2650 a couple weeks ago. It came with 256MB ram. 128MB onboard, and 128mb in the ram slot.

Now, the laptop is able to have up to 512MB ram, and I see a lot of them on ebay selling with 512MB ram, but I have no idea how they get it up to 512MB.

Here are the memory specs for the system... There is only one sodimm socket, and then it says that is only takes 128 or 256 modular chips. So with a 256MB chip, and the 128 onboard, thats only 384. How can I get 512? Thanks for any help!

Memory:

Inspiron 2650
DDR200 3.3V DDR

Memory module connector
one user-accessible SODIMM sockets

Memory module capacities
128 and 256 MB

Standard memory
128 MB

Maximum memory
512 MB

im not positive, but i mean it says right there its only got one sodimm socket, and when i opened it up i only saw one...

jimrawr, do you have the Dell webpage you are reading from?

I dont, that was sent to me in an email... I can paste all of the system information if it helps

The Crucial site also says 512MB max, and mentions that it has 2 banks. Don't know if they're both user accessible though..

Standard memory: 128 or 256MB non-removable

Perhaps you have 256MB onboard like someone mentioned.

I only have 128 onboard, i know that for a fact.. and a 128MB chip

I dont know how to get to 512 🙁

Maybe you're stuck with 384MB as a max then, unless there's some way to remove the 128MB stick..

Yeah thats what im thinking... but everywhere I look they say max 512.. even in the owners manual.. beh

i would assume if you put a 512 stick in, the 128 onboard would be disabled. but i could just be talking out of my ass.
