Laptop processor upgrade

I have a eMachines M5405 with a Mobile Sempron 2800+. For the price ($600 after rebate, whenever that gets here), it is a great machine, but it's performance leaves a little to be desired for things like Photoshop and Flash. I was wondering if it is feasible to upgrade the Sempron processor to a Mobile Athlon 64. Both processors use a socket 754 architecture, so a replacement should be possible. The only thing is - would it work?

P.S. I know this would DEFINITELY void my manufacturer's warranty, but I really don't care.

I wouldn't think it possible. Doesn't Athlon 64 need a different mainboard chipset to work properly, even if they're pin-compatible?

no, i but i think the thermal output on te A64 would be so much greater than the Sempron, so you'd have a much hotter laptop with much poorer battery life

Use a program like Everest Home Edition and get the chipset info on your mobo. We'll go from there
